“We are the music-makers and we are the dreamers of dreams.”
~ Arthur William Edgar O’Shaughnessy

Can a life change in an instant? Yes. In 2008, after a traumatic event, I began to invest time and energy in poetry.  At first, I was only trying to get constructed emotion onto the page, find my feet, rediscover what it was like to be happy, dance with the muse, and breathe!  I started writing and haven’t stopped. Writing helped.  Well, it did more than help, it saved me; poetry saved me.   It also carried me over the Salish Sea and introduced me to some amazing talents in the Pacific Northwest and beyond!  I am very thankful and richer for knowing all.

This website was launched in 2008 with one purpose, to build a platform to promote my first poetry book, Madrona Grove.  It was a bit of an experiment and a personal challenge in support of my mental well being.  Websites require content which is a pretty broad prompt for writing, I must say, but the content was indeed created.  From 2012 to 2019 I’ve released three poetry books and an audio album, promoting them all on shannonplawswriter.  Over time as my life in writing has developed so has the site.  I’ve promoted radio programs, poetry events, author book launches & interviews, posted first drafts, flash fiction, promote the “Poetry Club Talks…” podcast, and shared general observations of my world. Most importantly maintaining this platform allows me to express gratitude and support for the world of writing communities, and acknowledge the power of our voices to an international audience. Why stop a good thing?  It’s especially delightful when a reader connects with a story & hits the LIKE or leaves a comment.

Special thanks to the City of Bellingham for the two Mayor’s Arts Awards, (2014, 2017) acknowledging my notable contributions to the arts in the community.  Also honored by Writer’s International Network, of British Columbia, for the Community Champion Award (2015) in recognition of my work with World Peace Poets.

I’m really fond of the eight years in radio, producing programs for the SPARK Museum’s KMRE 102.3 FM, KZAX 94.9 Make.Shift Radio, and KPNW-DB Radio.    “Boosie’s Playhouse Classic Blues”, “The New Americana Hour” and “Bellingham Art Beat” are like children to me.  Archived programs are available under the “RADIO” drop-down menu and ready to play.  If it’s not too much to ask, please give them a listen and a “like”, let me know you came by.

Thank you for visiting.
