Anacortes to Friday Harbor

by Shannon P. Laws

The wood grain
The dimple wave
The standing evergreens
As the ferry boat travels
clouds are pushed
into Vancouver

My eyes are tricked
All lines move and melt
The window frames
a waxy scene
A hidden sun
dissolves the seams
like melting muted crayons

Memories forgetting faces
Showing off that all it
remembers are shadows
